The Ellen behind Writing Essentials

I’m Ellen Higgins, Ph.D., a professional writer, editor, researcher, and educator/trainer for over 30 years. For more than half of those years, I taught and created courses at the college level in English literature, grammar, and writing, as well as in Women’s Studies and Communication.

I also developed and taught curriculum and training materials (both traditional classroom and online and e-learning) for community, professional, and governmental agencies, including NYS agencies such as the Retirement System, the Department of Health, and the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.

In 2006, I began teaching a popular Writing Workshop for adults in a Continuing Education Program, where I have continued to share English fundamentals and to develop additional writing essentials to help writers find their voice and achieve their dreams, whatever their genre.

Now I am passionate about sharing this expertise and material to help you with your writing fundamentals and free you up to express your unique vision.

My vision is to create a space and community where you can polish your work for publication, whether that is producing a history for your family; self-publishing a novel, memoir, or non-fiction book; or seeking traditional publishing for your story or book. My mission is to provide you with writing essentials and English fundamentals to enhance your writing experience and output.
